Knowledge vs Realization

I had an awesome conversation last night with a person I look to for inspiration, Sakiya Sandifer. We were talking about the difference between Knowledge and Realization. A thought which we discussed was how people reach a point of ‘realization’ that is the catalyst to positive action.

A simple example of the context in which I use the words ‘knowledge’ and ‘realization’ is: You may have the ‘knowledge’ that eating high fat foods regularly is detrimental to your health, however until you implement a healthier choice you do not have the ‘realization’ of this information.

We then discussed how do people arrive at ‘realization’ in any circumstance?

I believe that there are 2 main ways that we can get to realization. We are either forced into realization or we consciously make a choice to realize.

We hear so many stories of ‘forced realization’ where people need to experience their darkest days in order to find the light. An example of this idea can be when a student is told by a teacher that they are going to fail unless they improve their grades by investing time into regular study. The student is then forced into ‘realization’ if they desire to make a positive change.  Yes they possessed the knowledge that study is necessary to gain good grades, however they were not in realization until they decided to apply the knowledge.

Consciously making a choice to move into ‘realization’ is a much easier and stress free method. Great people throughout history in all walks of life leave behind clues which are accessible for anyone and everyone. Emulating others who have ‘realization’ is a key to achieving positive change.

Failure is a stepping stone to realization. Don’t be afraid! Walk boldly and enjoy the journey!

    Hey Harry,

Loving your journey to enlightenment, awesome seeing somebody brave enough to put it out there.

I had a similar thought on “knowledge” myself.

I’ve recently pushed myself to live in the space that ‘knowing’ creates. It started with ending a relationship that I knew was not beneficial to all parties and I knew this for quite a while. I had been pretending I wasn’t aware of the negative aspects and kept hoping things would just get better.
Once I tapped into what it was that I did ‘know’ I was able to step away from fear and live with honesty.

I challenge all your readers to accept what they know and embrace the world and themselves as they truly exist.

My dream is to rid the world of anxiety, one of the most debilitating afflictions I’ve ever seen first hand. For your readers I hope that they may find some peace in asking themselves the question: What am I pretending I don’t know?

Knowledge is power and we all have it right now!

    All the best,

    Steve
