One of my life’s biggest passions apart from playing for the Collingwood Football club is being able to express my creativity through sharing my ideas. I am so grateful for social media as it is one of the most effective ways in doing this.
The reason why I decided to embrace social media and not fear it is because I am not the first athlete to have used it. Before I decided to get involved I looked to the U.S and Europe where professional athletes were utilizing social media in effective and positive ways. With the insurance of that evidence I was on my way.
I am by no means a social media expert, in fact I see myself as a novice. I am on a journey to find the most efficient and effective ways for me in this realm of communication. I have been asked to share my journey thus far as a professional athlete using social media at the Digital Sports summit.
I will be presenting amongst social media ‘experts’ who will provide great insights into the power of social media and what ways it can be effectively utilized in conjunction with sport. In my personal presentation I will be not only be sharing my journey with social media, but also showcasing my lack of knowledge.
In my presentation it will become apparent to all those who attend that I have a limited knowledge of social media, in fact I will start of by admitting that, however with that limited knowledge I have been able to effectively convey my ideas to reach an audience.
It will be a great day and I can’t wait to listen to the experts sharing the stage with me. I know I will learn a lot and hopefully offer insight as to how simple social media can be for anyone to use in a positive way because if I can do it anyone can!
