This picture was taken when I was in Mozambique in 2008. The kids were getting fresh water for their families. In this trip I witnessed many children with already great responsibilities. I met a young boy who was 9 years old and both parents had died of Aids. He now had the responsibility to raise his 5 year old brother.

I witnessed so many injustices, but for some reason I have always been drawn into places of poverty. I can’t explain it. I feel a collective sense of purity in the people that I cannot define and have not felt in other places.

I am a great advocate for travel and believe if you travel to other cultures you should always take the time to acknowledge and appreciate the cultural differences.
