An inspiration

The Dusty Foot Philosopher…

Today I was lucky enough to come across “Take a Minute” by K’Naan while I had my iPod on secret shuffle. While listening to his lyrics I remembered how inspiring he truly is.

“I take inspiration from the most heinous of situations
Creating medication out my own tribulations”

At age 13, K’Naan experienced the Somali Civil War before fleeing his homeland in hope of a better life. All the while he maintained a passion for poetry and partly learnt English by listening to hip-hop albums. Now, he is a world renowned hip-hop artist, most famous for his song “Waving Flag” which was used for the FIFA 2010 World Cup.

K’Naan’s story reminds me that moments of pain and suffering will not last forever. K’Naan continuously turns adversity into triumph most notably through his determination, perseverance and unconditional hope.

The story of K’Naan inspires me to become at peace with the present situation, with the understanding that it will not last forever.
